Many look forward to buying their new car as the country’s festive season begins. With October having come to an end, automakers have released their auto sales in Oct 2023. Let’s take a look at how the big players in the automotive industry have fared in terms of sales figures.

Maruti Suzuki sales in Oct 2023

In October 2023, Maruti Suzuki achieved a remarkable milestone by selling 199,217 vehicles, marking a substantial 19% year-on-year growth from its previous best sales of 189,082 units in August 2023. The company’s domestic sales in India reached 177,266 units, reflecting a robust 21% increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki delivered 5,325 units to other OEMs and exported 21,951 units, showing a 7.3% YoY growth in international sales.

A breakdown by segments revealed a decline in sales of entry-level mini-cars like the Alto and S-Presso, dropping from 24,936 units to 14,568 units. However, the compact segment, including models like Celerio, WagonR, Baleno, and others, increased by 9.47% to 80,662 units. Sales of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz decreased from 1,884 units in October 2022 to 695 units in October 2023. Utility offerings such as the Fronx, Jimny, and Ertiga collectively reached 59,147 units, while the Eeco contributed 12,975 units to the impressive sales figures.

Tata Motors sales in Oct 2023

In October 2023, Tata Motors announced a 5.89% increase in its total sales, reaching 82,954 units compared to 78,335 units in the same month the previous year. The company’s domestic sales for the month amounted to 80,825 units, a 6% growth compared to the 76,537 units in October 2022.

Specifically, sales of passenger vehicles, which include electric vehicles, in the domestic market reached 48,337 units. Showing a 7% increase from the 45,217 units in the corresponding period last year. Furthermore, the combined sales of electric passenger vehicles in both international and domestic markets saw a substantial growth of 28%. Totaling 5,465 units in October 2023 compared to 4,277 units in the same month in the previous year. Tata Motors also reported a 4% growth in its total commercial vehicle sales. Which reached 34,317 units, up from 32,912 units in October 2022.

Hyundai sales in Oct 2023

In October 2023, Hyundai Motors India achieved its highest-ever domestic sales. With 55,128 units sold, marking a 1.64% month-on-month increase compared to the 54,241 units sold in September 2023. This growth translates to an additional 887 units sold, attributed to the brand’s popular models. These consist the likes of Creta, Tucson, Exter, Alcazar, i20, Verna, Venue, Nios, and Aura.

However, exports saw a decline, with 13,600 units exported in October, a 21.84% decrease from 17,400 units in September 2023. The cumulative sales for October reached 68,728 units, reflecting a 4.07% decrease from the 71,641 units sold in September.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor

In October 2023, Toyota Kirloskar Motor experienced remarkable growth, with total sales reaching 21,879 units, marking a 66% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by strong performance in both the domestic market, with 20,542 units sold. And exports, accounting for 1,337 units. In comparison, the company had sold 13,143 units in October 2022.

From January to October 2023, Toyota Kirloskar Motor achieved sales of 1,92,661 units, surpassing the 1,38,190 units sold in the same period the previous year, reflecting a substantial 40% increase in 2023. In the first seven months of fiscal year 2023, they sold 1,45,818 units, a 39% growth compared to 1,04,986 units in FY’22.

Kia Motors sales in Oct 2023

In October 2023, Kia achieved its fourth-highest monthly sales, totaling 24,351 units, driven by the festive season and strong growth of the new Seltos. This marked a 4.41% year-on-year growth compared to the 23,323 units sold in the same month the previous year. The Seltos was the top-selling model with 12,362 units, followed by the Sonet with 6,493 units, Carens with 5,355 units, and the EV6 with 141 units in the domestic market.

Kia reported a total of 219,702 units sold between January and October 2023, with the Seltos leading at 83,250 units, followed by the Sonet at 73,333 units and Carens at 60,817 units.

Honda Cars India sales in Oct 2023

Honda Cars India reported its October 2023 sales, totalling 13,083 units, encompassing both domestic retail and exports. Surprisingly, the domestic market saw 9,400 unit sales, falling short of the October 2022 figure of 9,543 units, despite the introduction of the Elevate SUV.

However, exports marked a significant growth, reaching 3,683 units, a 55% increase compared to October 2022’s 1,678 units. In total, Honda sold 11,171 vehicles in October, with 9,861 units in the domestic market and 1,310 units for export.

MG sales in Oct 2023

MG Motor India achieved retail sales of 5,108 units in October 2023, marking a 17% increase from the previous year. Attributed to the festive season and customer incentives. Month-over-month, the company saw a 2.10% growth from September 2023. Electric vehicles accounted for 25% of total sales. In September, sales were 5,003 units, a 31% rise YoY. MG recorded 4,185 units sold in August this year, reflecting a 19.55% YoY growth. However, on a month-over-month basis, sales in August dropped by 16.50% compared to July 2023.

As part of its centenary year celebrations, MG Motor India has introduced special benefits and anniversary pricing for both existing and potential customers. MG’s current portfolio in India includes the Comet EV, ZS EV, Astor, Hector, and Gloster.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, today announced that its overall auto sales for October 2023 stood at 80,679 vehicles, a growth of 32%, including exports.

In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra recorded the highest sales for the fourth consecutive month. In October, the company sold 43,708 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 36%, and overall, 44,264 vehicles, including exports. The domestic sales for Commercial Vehicles stood at 25,715 units, also the highest ever.
