Hyundai Motor Company’s all-new EV crossover, the Ioniq 5 has received over 650 bookings since the month of December last year.
The South Korean automaker publicly showcased the Ioniq 5 in India at the Auto Expo 2023 and it has now announced that the deliveries of the premium electric vehicle will commence by the end of March this year.
About The Ioniq 5

The Ioniq 5 is the first among the six battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which Hyundai is planning to introduce in India by 2028 with an investment of Rs 4,000 crore, and is being locally assembled. The Ioniq 5 is also the maiden product to be based on Hyundai Motor Group’s electric-global modular platform (E-GMP).
Hyundai has bestowed the Ioniq 5 with a host of features, such as an eight-speaker Bose sound system, dual-zone temperature control, hands-free tailgate, 360-degree camera, seven airbags, BlueLink connected car features, Vehicle-2-Load (V2L), and heads-up display with augmented reality function, among others. In addition, it also comes with Level 2 autonomy.

Pricing
The Ioniq 5 was launched at an introductory price of Rs 44.95 lakh ex-showroom which was only applicable to the first 500 customers. The Ioniq 5’s sister car, the Kia EV 6 is comparatively expensive by Rs. 16 lakhs. Hyundai has managed to get such a huge price advantage due to the fact that the Ioniq 5 is a CKD (completely knocked down) type of import and gets assembled in the country at the brand’s Chennai plant. Whereas on the other hand, Kia imports the EV 6 into India as a CBU (completely built unit) which gets taxed higher.
Hyundai had initially planned to deliver only 250-300 units of the EV on annual basis, but looking at the booking numbers, Hyundai will extend the units supplied to the Indian market.
Battery, Range & Charging

Powering the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a 72.6kWh battery pack mated to a permanent synchronous motor producing 216bhp and 350Nm of torque. It gets an ARAI-certified range of 631km and can be charged from 10-80 percent in just 18 minutes using a 350kW DC charger.
