Volkswagen India Exports 2,50,000th Car To Mexico

Volkswagen India recently announced a new milestone in the history of the company. The Indian arm of the German automobile manufacturer revealed that it had exported the 2,50,000th locally built car, a Vento, to Mexico. The country currently accounts for 80% of the brand’s total export volume. Volkswagen has officially revealed that the demand for models such as the Polo hatchback and the Vento sedan has seen an increase off-late. The Vento is currently the third highest selling model in Mexico.

The company began exporting its products, which were manufactured at their Chakan facility in Pune, back in the year 2011. Since then, Volkswagen India has ramped up production to meet the export demand and even begun exporting its vehicles to other regions such as South America and Argentina. In March last 2016, the company celebrated its five year export journey in India by shipping over 1,85,000 locally produced models to the international markets.

Speaking on the occasion, Andreas Lauermann, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India, said, “The growing popularity of India-made Volkswagen cars in markets like Mexico and others lays testament to our strong focus on quality products across all our manufacturing investments worldwide – in line with our think global, build local philosophy! India on its part, has offered Volkswagen a rich mix of strong local market opportunity combined with manufacturing prowess that helps us serve the world with cars that are German in their soul and local in their flavour. We continue to invest in this opportunity and look forward to more successes from India in the years to come.”
