A quick recap; the month of March started off with the petrol and diesel prices going down by INR 3.02/litre and INR 1.47/litre respectively. The new low prices were brought just after the Finance Minister of India announced the Union Budget 2016-17. The party didn’t last for long and the prices returned to its previous state with a hike of INR 3.07/litre for petrol and 1.90/litre for diesel. And now there is another update on the prices that has been implemented from midnight of April 4-April 5, 2016.
With effective from midnight of April 4-April 5, 2016 the retail selling prices of petrol and diesel are increased by INR 2.19/litre and INR 0.98/litre respectively at Delhi (including State levies) respectively with corresponding price revision in other States.

Citing the current level of international product prices of Petrol & Diesel and INR-USD exchange rate the reason to increase the prices of petrol and diesel, the authorities say that its impact is passed on to the consumers. Also, they say that the movement of prices in the international oil market and INR-USD exchange rate shall continue to be monitored closely and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes.
