It is being said that the German Auto giant Volkswagen Group intends to use the same platform for underpinning the next generation of the Audi Q7, the upcoming Bentley SUV, next Volkswagen Touareg, the Lamborghini Urus,  and the next Porsche Cayenne.

This means that all five of the upcoming VW Group cars would be based on the much publicized MLB platform from Volkswagen. Thanks to this platform, the new Audi Q7, which will be unveiled sometime next year, will be as much as 350 kg (771 lbs) lighter than the current model. This is owing to the extensive use of aluminum in the new MLB platform. The new Audi Q7 could also mark the debut of an evolved design language from Audi.

The upcoming Bentley SUV, which is due for launch in 2016, will also use the same platform and will hence benefit from its lightweight construction. The next generation of the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne, which are scheduled to arrive in 2017, too will get the MLB platform. Talking about the Touareg and Cayenne, facelift models of these could debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Other than underpinning all these cars, the MLB platform will also underpin a “special car”- the highly anticipated Lamborghini Urus, which too could come in 2017.

  1. They would really need to test the platform first. Because if it fails, it would take down five products with itself and take out the group completely from the luxury SUV market.
