The India-spec, 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been spied at a dealership in Gujarat ahead of its purported launch in November 2016. The next-generation Fortuner is based on Toyota’s updated Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform that also underpins the Innova Crysta. Size wise, the all-new 2016 Toyota Fortuner is 90 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the outgoing model, while the wheelbase (2,750 mm) remains identical.
In India, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be offered with a choice of two, 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel engines that are already employed in the Innova Crysta. Which means that the premium SUV can be had with either a 2.4-litre engine only available with a 6-speed manual transmission, or a 2.8-litre engine exclusively available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both the drive-trains should also be available with optional 4WD, while it remains to be see if the 2.7-litre petrol engine from the Innova Crysta makes its way under the India-spec, 2016 Toyota Fortuner’s hood.
