ARAI issues notice to VW, German carmaker responds

ARAI has found variations in emission levels of the vehicles tested in the organization’s laboratory and the vehicles on the road. The German carmaker has been issues a notice in this regards. Further, the Government of India will also issue a notice to German car manufacturer about the ‘significant variations’ found by the Automotive Research Association of India. The cars affected by the diesel emissions scandal in India comprise of the Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta, Audi A4 and A6.

Ambuj Sharma, Additional Secretary, Heavy Industries Ministry, in a statement to PTI said, “ARAI has found significant variations in the emission level in on-road vehicles as compared to the laboratory measurements. We are issuing a notice to Volkswagen Group of companies today to give technical inputs and explain their position”

Volkswagen has been given 15 to 21 days to respond to the notice. The German carmaker, in its response said that the company has received a notice from ARAI and will respond to it latest by 30th of November. Here’s the official statement released by VW

Volkswagen Group India representatives had met Government of India – Ministry of Heavy Industries and ARAI on 29th October 2015.

It was agreed with the Government of India that Volkswagen Group India will present its results from the evaluations regarding the diesel engine emissions topic by the end of November 2015. The next steps would depend on the findings from these evaluations.

Volkswagen Group India confirms that it has received a notice from ARAI and will respond to the same by 30th November 2015.

Volkswagen Group India will continue to fully co-operate with the Government of India in this matter.
