Yamaha R25 may have arrived late to the party but it got a surprise guest along with it. A few Indonesian websites have reported the spotting of the naked variant of the R25 and we guess that it is the 250cc variant of the MT series which Yamaha had promised for the European market.
The MT25 (the anticipated name) is expected to don the similar power unit that is found on the R25. So the MT25 will receive a 249cc, parallel-twin, 8-valve, liquid-cooled engine that would churn out 36PS of power and 22.5Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a six speed gearbox which will be re-tuned to match the character of a street motorcycle. In terms of design, the MT25 will shed off the clip on bar for a naked motorcycle style wide handlebar. The MT25 is expected to be lighter in weight as compared to the R25.

The MT25 is still in the development stage and it will take some time to reach to the audience. Once introduced, the MT25 will compete against Kawasaki’s soon to be launched Z250 and the Suzuki Inazuma.
