Skoda Octavia is one of the best entry-level luxury cars that brought the brand a big recognition in our country. The Octavia hit the Indian roads a few years ago and after around four years of hard work, the Czech brand has updated its premium class sedan and launched recently in India. The car is completely razor sharp at every edge and full of awesomeness and as they say, simply clever.
The updated Skoda Octavia is full of refreshment and the car looks all-new from every forefront. The main attraction and the major update is at the front in the form of split quad headlamp set up. It may look erratic in the pictures but the headlamps also host a lot of features. The sleek LED strip at the bottom with blades of LED lights inside the headlamps are new to us at least in the entry-level luxury cars and they are beautiful too. The headlamps are adaptive LED units which means it illuminates automatically when it senses the darkness of the surroundings and the driver doesn’t need to switch it on manually. It also gets auto high beam functions along with it, the headlamp will adjust its brightness according to the environment. The front bumper seen a little update with a chrome strip that measures the width of the car and the butterfly grille is more beautiful now that it also gets chrome outline in it. The sculpted bonnet is more of an added attraction and the side profiles retain its fuss-free smart design with the only update is revised and all new 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear section is also similar to the one on the old model but the C shaped tail lights are more edgy and sharper now. The rear bumper is also given a mild update but you have to take a deep look to notice the change.
When you open the doors of Octavia, the fresh interior welcomes you with a light dual tone upholstery and a glossy black dashboard. The major makeover in the interior is the all-new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment which has replaced the older 6.0-inch display in the previous generation model. Also, the physical buttons on the older version have been replaced with the touch-sensitive buttons that make the new infotainment display bigger than it actually is. The infotainment display also supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink compatibility. The instrument cluster is also given a cool new refreshment and there are other features including a sleeker steering wheel, two USB ports in the rear cabin and water bottle holders on all the doors. The dual-zone climate control is familiar with the older version and the rear passenger row gets more comfortable with more legroom. The Octavia also gets a colour-programmable ambient cabin lighting that can be chosen from the mobile App.
The Skoda Octavia comes with 8 airbags in the interior that keeps the passengers safe in case of an accident. It also gets a feature called multi-collision braking that applies the brakes continuously in the event of a collision and a hill hold assist to keep the vehicle safe on track during stop-and-go hilly regions. Apart from these, the car is also equipped with parking assist function with 12 sensors that help hands-free parking. This system can be activated by pressing a button ahead of the gear selector.
The all-new Skoda comes with three engine options and three gearboxes in which all of them are made at the same level of tuning. Petrol heads have two powerplants to choose from. One of them is the more powerful 1.8TSI engine that generates a maximum power of 180PS at 5100-6200rpm and maximum torque of 250 Nm between 1250-5000rpm with the power transmission comes through an automatic 7-speed DSG gearbox and another one is the smaller engine with 1.4TSI that produces 150PS between 5000-6000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1500-3500rpm The power is transferred to the wheels through manual 6-speed gearbox. The diesel option is equipped with a 2.0TDI engine that delivers 143PS of maximum power at 3500-4000rpm and a peak torque of 320Nm between 1750-3000rpm. There are two variants with once comes with the manual 6-speed gearbox and another one is 6-speed automatic DSG gearbox.
The rear track of 1.8TSI variant has been increased by further 30mm which means the car gets more stability even at high speeds. On the 2.0 diesel engine car, the rear track is increased by 20mm to accommodate the compound link crank axle. Suspension duties are not modified and continue to use the same.
Skoda Octavia price starts from INR 16 Lakh to INR 26 Lakh.
After belting two premium SUVs back to back, it was now time to get back to the sedan scheme of things. Welcoming the change was the new 2017 Skoda Octavia. A car that has been bridging the gap between value and luxury for a long time now. And as we found out, with a new face, it still manages to do that exceedingly well and offers truckloads of premium, without the need for you to break the bank and go all-out German.
