There was a time when seeing an Ather scooter usually meant seeing the 450 range. The Konarc changes that picture. We spent time looking at Ather’s new electric scooter and it feels quite different from the company’s sporty models.
The Konarc starts at Rs 99,999 and uses Ather’s new EL platform. It is made for people who want an electric scooter for regular city use. Comfort, storage and easy charging seem to matter more here than outright speed.
Design
The Konarc has a simple scooter shape with a wide front apron and a Rizta style DRL. The full metal body is one of the things we liked. It gives the scooter a solid feel.
The large 14 inch front wheel also catches attention. Ather has used 90mm front and 100mm rear suspension travel. The 1,352mm wheelbase is the longest among Ather scooters.
At the back, there is useful space for a pillion. The scooter gets a padded grab handle and an adjustable backrest.
Battery and Charging
The Konarc is available with three battery sizes in the versions currently priced.

Charging
The onboard charger is a useful addition. The Konarc gets a 450W charger as standard. A second charger can be used to raise the combined charging output to 1.35kW.
This should make home charging easier for owners who want shorter charging times.
Features
Ather has added several new features to the Konarc. The biggest change is not just another screen or connected function. Some of the technology has been designed around everyday scooter use.
The MagicKey system can wake and unlock the scooter without taking the key out of your pocket. It can also help locate the scooter and open the seat.
AutoPop is another useful feature. It can open the seat remotely, which can be handy when your hands are full. AirWalk gives the scooter a little motor assistance when you push or pull it manually.

Safety
Ather has added its AEBS system to the Konarc Z. The electronic braking system is designed to improve braking control and reduce rear wheel lock during hard braking.
The braking hardware varies by version. The S 100 uses drum brakes at both ends, while the S 125 and S 161 get a front disc with a rear drum.
Daily Use
This is where the Konarc makes the most sense to us. The long wheelbase, large front wheel and suspension travel should make normal city riding more comfortable.
The storage space is also useful for everyday shopping and carrying small items. The scooter does not feel like it was made only for quick solo rides.
Price And Verdict
The Konarc S 100 costs Rs 99,999, while the S 125 and S 161 cost Rs 1.22 lakh and Rs 1.45 lakh respectively. Prices for the Z versions are yet to be announced.
For us, the Konarc looks like a sensible move from Ather. It keeps some of the technology people expect from the brand but puts more attention on comfort and daily practicality.
The real test will be how it performs on Indian roads over time. On first look, though, the Konarc makes a good case for itself.
