Picture an R15 rider walking into a Yamaha showroom and asking one question: what comes next? That question now has a clear answer. Yamaha has launched the YZF R2 in India at Rs 2.30 lakh, giving riders a new 200cc supersport with more power, more electronics and a light chassis. It will sit above the R15, with three versions available from launch for Indian buyers today.

Yamaha has introduced the R2 in three versions. Deliveries will start from mid September 2026.

The Quick Shifter version gets a bidirectional quickshifter. The R2 M adds several premium parts and sits at the top of the range.
Engine And Performance
The R2 uses a new 204cc liquid cooled single cylinder engine. It makes 26.5 PS at 10,000rpm and 19.1Nm at 8,000rpm. A six speed gearbox sends power to the rear wheel. An assist and slipper clutch is standard.
The engine also gets ride by wire, a four valve head and DiASil cylinder technology. Yamaha has worked on the intake and exhaust for a sportier sound.

Lightweight Chassis And Hardware
Yamaha has used a new steel diamond frame for the R2. The company says the frame is 2.8kg lighter than the R15 frame. Suspension comes from an inverted front fork and a rear monoshock.
Braking hardware includes a 282mm front disc with a radial four piston caliper and a rear disc. Dual channel ABS and traction control are standard.
The motorcycle also gets a five inch colour TFT display. Smartphone connectivity, navigation and Yamaha Y Connect are part of the package.
Electronics And R2 M Extras
Three riding modes are available: Street, Sport and Rain. A Custom mode lets the rider adjust throttle response, traction control and quickshifter settings.
The R2 M gets adjustable front and rear suspension, adjustable clutch and brake levers, a Smart Key, faux suede seat and special detailing.
Design And Everyday Details
The styling follows Yamaha’s R family with a front section, compact fairing and a riding position. LED lighting is used at both ends. R2 has a 1,340mm wheelbase, 24.5 degree caster angle and 103mm trail.
The standard model offers the lowest price. The Quick Shifter version adds faster gear changes, and the R2 M gets more adjustment and premium parts.
The bike faces the KTM RC 200, Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210. Deliveries begin from mid September, giving Yamaha fans another option in the performance bike space.
