Chennai is India’s automobile hub. Everyone is here, from Ford to BMW and add to that a number of component manufacturers too. But the latest big enterant is the French duo Peugeot-Citroen.
Peugeot is not new to the Indian market. If your remember, they earlier entered the Indian turf under collabration with Premier Auto Limited(PAL). They had launched the 309 here, which was indeed a good car but the sales didn’t pick up and a series of unhealthy events like worker agitation meant that they had to go back.
Peugeot-Citroen is now exploring the outskirts of Chennai city to set up a manufacturing cum assembly unit. The report was verified by Rajeev Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries Department, Government of Tamil Nadu who said that they still discussing where the company’s plant could be. He also added that everything at this point of time is at discussion level only.
If the plan materialises, then expect this French collabration to bring in some of the nice products they have. We hope that happens soon.
