Tesla has cemented its legacy with it’s Model Y, by not just being the best-selling EV in the world but now has outsold its petrol competitors as well. It has achieved the title of the best selling car in the world in the Q1 of 2023. In the first quarter, the Tesla Model Y emerged as the top horse, with an impressive sales figure of 267,200 units. This represents a remarkable 69 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Notably, the Model Y showcased strong performance in its core market, China, as well as in the United States, where sales surged by 68 percent. Additionally, the Model Y achieved a significant milestone in Europe by becoming the top-selling vehicle in the region.
The EV boom across the globe has helped Tesla a lot in achieving this formidable victory.

Toyota loses the top spot to the Tesla but the rest of the four slots are still with Toyota. There is a close battle between the Tesla Model Y and the Corolla for the top spot. Only a difference of 11,200 Units. Model Y has gained sales percentage compared to the previous year and the Corolla on the other hand has lost around 20% of sales compared to 2022 Q1. The Corolla moniker Includes all the body styles like the sedan, hatchback and wagon.
It is yet to be seen how things workout for the rest of the year but we project that the Tesla will hold its lead as EVs are gaining popularity in the lower segments and cost of manufacturing the batteries is going down.
