Tata Zica

Tata Tiago enters production, to be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show

The Tata Zica, now christened as the Tiago, has reportedly reached the production line at the company’s Sanand factory in Gujrat. The Tiago will be the second small car to be manufactured at the facility which was initially a manufacturing unit specifically built for the Nano. The name change happened months after the unveiling of the vehicle after the name “Zica” ominously related to the deadly “Zika” virus.

Reports suggest that the Tiago has been in production for some time now with around 1800 units being produced till now. The Tiago was also recently reported to come equipped with an AMT gearbox. The company seems to be in the finals stages with the Tiago before its impending launch.

Powering the Tiago are 2 brand new engines, a 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine and a 1.0 litre Revotorq diesel engine. The petrol engine produces a power output of 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque while the diesel engine produces a power output of 70 PS and 140 NM of torque. Both these engines are mated to a 5 speed manual transmission while reports suggest that the AMT variant will also be offered after its launch.

While the diesel powered AMT version of the Tiago will be a first in its segment, the Tiago will be the third AMT equipped car from the automaker, following the Tata Zest diesel and the GenX Nano.

While there is no official news from Tata Motors regarding the launch, the Tiago is reported to fly to Switzerland for the upcoming Geneva motor Show that will take place next week. With the renaming of the Zica to the Tiago, there leaves very less time to the launch that we would be covering live.
