When it comes to electric SUVs (or crossovers), the Tata Nexon EV and the MG ZS EV are the most popular ones depending on their price. The gap between the Nexon EV and the ZS EV was large enough for customers to differentiate between the two. However, with the new Nexon EV Max entering the competition, the gap between the two has significantly reduced. So, is it worth paying extra for the MG ZS EV over the Nexon EV Max? Let’s find out!

The difference between the top-end Nexon EV Max and base MG ZS EV is roughly ₹2.7 lakh. Compare the top-end Nexon EV Max to the top-end ZS EV and the difference will increase to around ₹6 lakh. Though the additional difference does offer you a bit more of everything in the ZS EV, the Nexon offers great value for the price.

Other than in terms of ground clearance, the MG ZS EV trumps the Tata Nexon EV Max in terms of every aspect in terms of dimensions. This is due to the fact that the ZS EV is based on the mid-size SUV Astor whereas the Nexon EV Max is based on the standard Nexon which is a compact SUV.

Just like in terms of dimensions, the MG ZS EV has an edge over the Nexon EV Max in terms of the specifications. The ZS EV has a larger battery pack which offers more range. With the 7.4kW AC wall box charger, the ZS can charge from 0-100 percent in 8.5 to 9 hours. And 0-80 percent on a 50kW DC charger takes just 60 mins.

The Nexon EV Max takes around 15-16 hours to fully charge with the 3.3kW AC charger, while the 7.2kW AC version takes around 5-6 hours. It can also be charged from 0-80 percent in just 56 minutes via a 50kW DC fast charger. The more powerful motor in the ZS EV makes it quicker than the Nexon. Both the EVs offer driving modes and selectable regen modes as well.

The Nexon EV Max comes with a sunroof, automatic headlamps, ventilated seats, auto-dimming IRVM, electric parking brake with auto-hold, auto wipers, leatherette seats, automatic climate control, push-button start, keyless entry, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, a rear camera, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and cruise control. In terms of safety, the Nexon EV Max gets hill descent control, hill hold, TPMS, dual airbags, ISOFIX child mounts, and electronic stability program (ESP) with i-VBAC (intelligent Vacuum-less Boost & Active Control). The braking has been improved as well thanks to all four disc brakes.

The MG ZS EV comes with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, a digital instrument cluster, push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, rear center armrest, a 360-degree camera, electrically adjustable driver seat, wireless phone charging, auto wipers, drive modes, and heated ORVMs. It also comes loaded with many safety features including 6 airbags, TPMS, ESP, HLA, HDC, EPB, Blind-spot detection system, pedestrian detection system, rear cross-traffic alert, and ISOFIX mounts to name a few.
