Milan-based coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera has revealed its plan to showcase a road-ready edition of the Disco Volante concept at the fast approaching Geneva Motor Show that is scheduled to be held early next month.

The Disco Volante made its public debut at a Swiss gathering last year and the concept was designed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Alfa Romeo C52. The C52 is a very uncommon two seater that was made on experimental basis. Thanks to a smooth and ultramodern silhouette, the C52 was quick to get a new name of Disco Volante, which is Italian speak of “flying saucer.”

The new Disco Volante is powered a Maserati-sourced 4.7-liter V8 engine that is also found in the Alfa Romeo 8C. The motor is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that can be operated through shift paddles. The Disco Volante is rear wheel driven.

The Disco Volante’s concept has a silhouette that draws heavy inspiration from the original Disco Volante (C52) and the concept boasts of a drag coefficient of merely 0.25. The Disco Volante concept is made from hand-hammered aluminum sheets but Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera also used carbon fiber to keep a check on the weight.

It is expected that the Disco Volantes will have a limited production run and will be sold for at a stratospheric price.
