Next-Gen Hyundai i20 Interior Spotted with Dual Curved Screens, New Steering Wheel Design and More

Hyundai’s new i20 is slowly taking shape and the latest test car gives a proper look at what is coming inside the cabin. This is the fourth generation of the premium hatchback, and it feels like a bigger step than a routine update.

The new car is expected to come to India around FY2028. It will share its base with the upcoming Bayon SUV which is also planned for our market.

The biggest change is inside. The test car shows a broad curved display that integrates the instrument cluster and touchscreen into a single unit. Reports suggest both screens could be 12.3 inches. The steering wheel is new too. It seems to get the four dot design in the centre, which stands for the letter H in Morse code. The layout of the dashboard is cleaner and more modern, like what we have already seen on the latest Venue. A new interior theme and new seat upholstery are also likely.

Feature list is expected to grow.

  • 360 degree camera
  • Level 2 ADAS package
  • Sunroof
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Wireless charger
  • Built in dashcam
  • Connected car tech
  • Drive modes
  • Ambient lighting
  • Six airbags, ESC, HAC, VSM, TPMS

The exterior is also set for a redesign. Test cars display sharper headlamps and LED daytime lights. A full width LED light bar on the front is possible. The grille appears more rectangular with slats instead of the current cascading design. New dual tone alloy wheels with a star pattern have been spotted. At the rear, connected LED tail lamps, a raked windscreen and a revised bumper are expected.

Engine options might remain familiar at launch.

  • 1.2 litre petrol with 5 speed manual or CVT
  • 1.0 litre turbo petrol for N Line with 6 speed manual or 7 speed DCT

Hyundai has confirmed plans for more hybrids in India. A new 1.2 litre turbo petrol engine is under development and could get a strong hybrid system in the future.

Prices are likely to move up. The current model ranges between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 11.67 lakh ex showroom. The new one could range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. Rivals will continue to be the Maruti Baleno Tata Altroz Toyota Glanza and even the upcoming new Swift.

The new i20 looks set to bring more tech more safety and possibly hybrid power, while staying true to its premium hatchback space.
