Updated: New Swift launched at Rs 4.22 lakh ex-Delhi: All the details

As VW unveiled its Jetta in Mumbai, Maruti Suzuki was playing host to the most anticipated launch in India in New Delhi. The company has just launched the all-new Swift 1.2 LXi at an introductory price of Rs 4.22 lakh ex-Delhi. Here is the list of the prices for all the variants of the new car.

The new Swift, according to MSIL offers best in class acceleration, high power to weight ratio and much improved fuel efficiency. The company also claims that the new Sift has as many as 140 new features. Maruti Suzuki has made sure that the New Swift is highly localized. The level of localization on the new Swift is more than 95 percent. Maruti’s suppliers are said to have invested over Rs. 550 Crore to make the new Swift better.

The Swift is one of the most popular hatchbacks in India, and has sold over 600,000 units in 6 years. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki said, “We have launched the new Swift at a time when there was significant demand for the outgoing model. In keeping with the Swift’s iconic status, we had to ensure that the brand continues to offer the latest and the best in terms of features, design, performance and aspiration. I am confident that the new Swift will create new benchmarks with its improved fuel efficiency, stylish & sportier looks and high performance.”

Here’s a list of other interesting facts about the new Swift

•    Tranmission duties taken care of by 5-speed manual system, featuring detent pin tech for smooth shifts.
•    New engine not only more powerful, but sportier sounding than the outgoing version
•    New 15 inch alloy wheels with a new design for the top end ZXI / ZDI variant. 16 inch wheels with lower profile tyres available as an option
•    Tyre size for LXI / VXI/ LDI / VDI  variants 165 / 80 R14
•    Tyre size for ZXI ZDI variants 185 / 65 R15
•    Improvement in suspension, the new car rides and handles better than the outgoing model
•    New car longer by 9 cm with wheelbase longer by 4 cm. This means 2cm more space for the back benchers. Also, the car is wider by 5mm.
•    Indented seats try to increase knee-space further, but the Swift is still not the best car for back seat space.
•    Length 3850mm Width 1695mm Height 1510mm Wheel Base 2430mm
•    Petrol variant 30 Kg lighter than the current version. Diesel variant 15 Kg lighter than the current version. Changes made to the chassis and a new, plastic fuel tank responsible for weight loss.

•    Steering wheel, center console, A/V vents, plastics – everything is new, and better than the outgoing version.
