As the new 2015 BMW X6 breaks cover, an increasing number of people stressed on their vision, looked through their magnifying glasses to differentiate between the X4 and the X6. It’s the badge that reveals the clue though, along with the X6’s ‘air curtain’ breathers behind the front wheel arches. BMW sold around a quarter of a million of these butch looking machines in its previous iteration and continues to still sell some more, as this new one will only see light of the day by the end of2014.
As expected the new X6 is in every way better than the old, claiming more power, more space, more strength and less consumption. Under the skin the X6 now has permanent four wheel drive across all versions, obeying commands through an eight speed auto. Three engine options are available, a 50d boasting of a triple turbo unit churning out 381bhp with a claimed 0-100kph in 5.2 seconds. These numbers coupled with an unbelievable CO2 rating of just 174g/km, so we can expect the weather to be less unpredictable next year. There is another less urgent 30d version and a turbo petrol 50i version available, for those who live next to an oil well. An xDrive 40d (313bhp) and an xDrive 35i (306bhp) will be added to the range later.
The X6 will be available with three optional suspension packages, Dynamic gets you an active anti-roll system and adaptive dampers with a torque vectoring rear differential. Comfort, with air suspension at the rear and adaptive dampers and a Professional package that ticks all of the above. BMW has also announced a range of cabin trim packages, one of them that sounds like, ‘Design Pure Extravagance’.
And just like the X-Men movies where the CGI gets better with every iteration, expect the ‘X6 M’ to be the one with sharper claws and longer sideburns.
