The G 310 R’s first derivative is here, and it’s an adventure tourer. Called the G 310 GS and sharing its platform with the G 310 R, the baby GS is going to be a new entry point to BMW Motorrad’s GS range of adventure bikes. Power comes from the same 313 cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that’s employed in the G 310 R, with power and torque outputs of  34 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 2.85 kgm at 7500 rpm respectively.

The new BMW G 310 GS has a kerb weight of 169.5 kilograms and has a 11-litre fuel tank. The baby GS also gets ABS, a multi-function instrument cluster, USD front forks and an aluminium swing-arm. The six-speed transmission is retained from its R street-fighter sibling, but the exhaust system has been redesigned for the GS. The attachment points for body components, the suspension, and the handlebars have been uprated as well. The G 310 GS measures 2075mm in length, 880mm in width and 1,230mmin high, along with a wheelbase of 1,420mm. Braking duties are taken care of by 300mm single disc with 4-piston radial caliper at the front and 240mm disc, single piston floating caliper at the rear.

The smallest and latest to join the GS family has its off-road credentials backed by 180 mm of spring travel (both at front and rear), and a larger (110/80 R19) front tire. Rubber at the rear remains unchanged in comparison to that of the G 310 R (150/70 R17), but the tread is now all-terrain. In addition, the G 310 GS is also offered with optional luggage carrier, top box, centre stand, LED indicators, heated grips, tank bag, GPS support and GPS Navigator for tackling the wilderness.  Colour choices will include Cosmic Black, Racing Red, and Pearl White (metallic). The G 310 GS will be manufactured at the TVS manufacturing facility in Hosur (near Bengaluru) alongside the G 310 R.
