The 2016 Ford Endeavour (a.k.a Everest for the international markets) and the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, both India bound, have passed the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) with top honors. The 7-seat premium SUVs scored the maximum rating of 5 Stars.
Report card for the new Ford Endeavour:
The advanced safety features such as front airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver knee airbags, electronic stability control (EBC), emergency brake assist (EBA), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and seat belt reminders helped the Endeavour to score high.
On the Frontal Offset the scores were:
Head, neck: 4/4,
Chest: 3.77/4,
Upper legs: 4/4,
Lower legs: 3.61/4.
The Ford Endeavour also scored ‘Good’ on the Whiplash Protection Test and importantly scored 100% on the Side impact and the Pole test. The new-generation Ford Endeavour has scored a total of 35.38 of 37.
The Top end variants of the Ford Endeavour get ESC, emergency stop signal, Hill Launch Assist, reversing collision assistance, rollover warning, rolling stability system, trailer stability control, speed assist system (speed limiter) and head restraint for all seats. Further, it also comes with auto high beam, lane support system, blind spot monitoring, LED DRLs, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Attention assist among other electronic aids.
Report card for the new Toyota Fortuner:
The Fortuner scored a total of 33.95 out of 37. It is to be noted that the agency has not tested the Fortuner SUV, but has created the test report based on its pickup version, the 2016 Toyota Hilux.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner (all variants) is equipped with three-point seat belts for all forward-facing seats with seat belt pretensioners up front, Intelligent seat belt reminder, front airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver knee airbags, head restraints for all seats, antilock braking system (ABS), automatic headlights, Electronic brake force distribution (EBD), Electronic stability control (ESC), Electronic stop signal (ESS), Emergency brake assist (EBA), Hill launch assist, Reversing collision avoidance, Top-tether anchorages, and Trailer stability control.
On the Frontal Offset the scores were:
Head & neck: 3/4
Chest: 4/4
Upper legs: 4/4
Lower legs: 2/4
Like the Ford Endeavour, the Toyota Fortuner also scored ‘Good’ on the Whiplash Protection Test and 100% on the Side impact and the Pole test. Fortuner managed a total of 34.05 of 37.
While the new Ford Endeavour is expected to launch in India by the end of 2016, the new Toyota Fortuner will only be arriving sometime in 2017.
