Hyundai Casper Based EV to be Dubbed as Hyundai INSTER Teased

Hyundai Motor Company has provided teaser images of its all-electric vehicle, the INSTER. The Hyundai Inster is an A-segment sub-compact EV is poised to set new standards in driving range, technology, and safety, marking a significant milestone in the automotive industry.

The INSTER, a name derived from “intimate” and “innovative,” is an evolution of the petrol-powered CASPER, initially launched in Korea in 2021.

Hyundai Inster – Design

Teaser images reveal a robust yet compact SUV profile, featuring signature LED daytime running lights and pixel-graphic turn signals and tail lamps. These design elements not only enhance the vehicle’s aesthetics but also represent Hyundai’s EV design identity.

The INSTER’s design showcases Hyundai’s innovative spirit with a longer wheelbase and design elements inspired by the Ioniq 5. It retains the round headlamp setup from the CASPER with some tweaks and adds circular LED DRLs. The fully digital driver’s display and other design features highlight Hyundai’s commitment to cutting-edge technology.

Powertrain and Debut

While specific powertrain details are yet to be announced, the projected range of 315 km on a single charge. This range is comparable to the ARAI-certified range of the Tata Tiago EV in India.

The global debut of the INSTER at the Busan International Mobility Show, running from June 27 to July 7, 2024, is highly anticipated.

Will it come to India?

The INSTER, positioned as Hyundai’s entry-level EV, is expected to launch first in Hyundai’s home country, followed by Europe. There is currently no confirmation on whether the INSTER will be available in India. However, Hyundai plans to begin production of its first locally produced EV, the Creta EV, at the end of 2024 in Chennai. By 2030, Hyundai aims to produce five more EVs in India, spanning various segments and body styles, including SUVs, sedans, and CUVs (Compact Utility Vehicles).

In our opinion, the Inster will be a great addition to Hyundai’s EV fleet in India. Currently Hyundai sells only the Kona Electric and the IONIQ 5 which come at a premium. A mass-market EV that could take on the Tata Tiago EV could spice up the competition.
