Honda Crider could be the next gen City for us. To come with a diesel powerplant

Earlier today, we reported that Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Honda Cars India Ltd has said that his company is looking forward to launching the next gen Honda City next year. He further said that the new City would come equipped with a diesel engine.

Now, it is being said that the Honda Crider, the production version of the Honda Concept C, could be renamed as the City and launched in India. The new Honda Crider is being produced by Guangzhou-Honda joint venture in China and so far, the car has been on sale only in our neighboring country.

The Honda Crider is powered by a 1.8 litre petrol engine that comes mated with a five speed transmission. However, the car could get the Honda 1.5 litre iVTEC motor when it comes to us as the new City. We expect it to also get the Honda 1.6 litre Earth Dreams oil burner for the diesel variants.

The exterior design of the Crider stays quite true to that of the Concept C and the car definitely looks like some of the other Honda sedans when viewed in profile.  The front of the car is characterized by a liberal sprinkling of chrome on the front grille and by the DRLs. The car has a swooping roofline which helps in imparting a hint of sportiness to the design. At the rear, the car comes with wrap around tail lights that might not appeal to all.

Safely expect the Crider, nay, the all new India-spec Honda City to be launched in India as a slightly more premium product than the current model.

Stay tuned to Motoroids for more dope on the new Honda City India launch.
