Automatic Gearbox in Sight for Force Gurkha

The Force Gurkha, a bold and rugged off-roader, is about to get even more enticing. Force Motors is reportedly evaluating the addition of an automatic gearbox to the SUV’s lineup, aiming to broaden its appeal beyond hardcore enthusiasts.

A 7-Speed Solution for Off-Road Prowess

According to media reports, Force Motors is considering a 7-speed torque converter unit from the Japan Automatic Transmission Company (JATCO). This choice makes sense, as JATCO produces transmissions well-suited for off-road applications. Unlike the CVTs they supply for the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, this 7-speed torque converter is likely to offer the necessary durability and low-speed crawling ability that the Gurkha demands when tackling tough terrain.

Price Bump Expected, But Convenience Gains Ground

While the automatic Gurkha will likely carry a slight premium compared to the manual version, it is expected to be offered in both 3-door and 5-door configurations. This move directly addresses a key limitation of the current Gurkha, which is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This has restricted its appeal to urban buyers who may prefer the convenience of an automatic, especially in stop-and-go traffic.

Expanding Horizons: Matching the Competition

The addition of an automatic gearbox positions the Gurkha more competitively against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Mahindra Thar. These competitors already offer automatic variants, attracting a wider audience who value both off-road capability and city driving comfort.  This strategic move by Force Motors could significantly enhance the Gurkha’s market reach.
