In a few days from now, October 19 to be precise, Fiat India will launch the highly anticipated Abarth Punto in India. With 145 bhp on tap, this little, Italian stinger is all set to be India’s most powerful hatchback, this side of a Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1 Series or the Volvo V40.
The Linea sourced 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine under the Abarth Punto’s hood has been stoked to produce the aforementioned power output, while torque has also been significantly nudged to 210 Nm. 100 km/h from a standstill will be decimated in just 8.8 seconds. Along with added muscle, the Abarth Punto will also feature a stiffer suspension set-up, while the ride height has been dropped by 20mm.
Furthermore, the Abarth Punto with come with disc brakes all around and beefier 195/55 R16 Apollo tyres, which will compliment the 16-inch “Scorpion” alloy wheels. The interior retains the all-black theme from the Punto Evo 90HP but uses different seat fabrics and gets red and yellow contrast stitching.
To match the go, Fiat India will also offer a variety of decals and liveries for the Abarth Punto, which will include red striping across the hood, roof and sides, along with a splattering of Abarth’s Scorpion logos. Red accents on the fog lamp surrounds, grille and mirror caps will form the highlights, while a tasty matte grey paint-job is also on the offing.
Bookings for India’s most affordable hot-hatch have already commenced at INR 50,000, and it is expected that prices for the Abarth Punto could start below the INR 10 lakh mark. The Abarth Punto will be followed by India’s most powerful compact crossover – the Avventura Abarth.
