Pilsen Auto, a Skoda dealer based in Dublin, Ireland, has put up a bold strategy to market the all new Skoda Superb. The auto dealer offers a test drive of the BMW 5 series for potential Skoda Superb buyers for an instant shoot-out. Volkswagen-owned Skoda boasts that their Superb has what it takes to be a perfect luxury sedan and can compete with any other premium offerings, even outside of its league. The dealer boldly asks the question – ‘Is this as good as the SKODA Superb?’ by putting up a sticker on a BMW and exhibiting it outside its showroom.

In the aforementioned country, the Skoda Superb is available in 10 variants with prices starting from €26,995 (approx INR 20,41,428) for the base variant and the top end trim rolls out for €47,115 (INR 35,62,952 approx). In comparison, the base variant of the BMW 5 series is priced at €45,200 (INR 34,18,135 approx). Therefore, on comparing the power outputs of the top end variant of the Superb with the base variant of the BMW 5 series, the 2.0 TDi Superb fires out 190 bhp against the 181 bhp from the BMW 520d. While the numbers of the Superb are tad higher, the driving dynamics of the BMW are more engaging than the the Superb.

Skoda has pumped up the new Superb with a lot of premium bits on the inside and it is a job well done. It may not surpass the premium treatment that is offered in luxury cars but its creature comforts stand at par with executive saloons like the 5-Series. The Skoda Superb takes a handsome stance with classy looks, feature rich interiors, and a decent engine configuration to keep one impressed. The price at which the Superb offers all of that is almost half of the amount the BMW 5-Series demands. Even if the Superb takes away a point in the pricing, the BMW 5 series rules the performance segment, hands down.
Both the cars are from different leagues but they come together when compared in terms of features and price. The Skoda dealer is banking on this exact point to promote their Superb, as it delivers decent performance and extravagant features at a much affordable price than the BMW 5-Series.
