Auto Expo 2018: India-Spec Toyota Yaris Mid-Size Sedan Unveiled

Toyota used the stage at the 2018 Auto Expo to showcase the upcoming Yaris mid-size sedan. When launched in India, it will slot in between the Etios and the Corolla to rival the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.

The Yaris is a renamed version of the Toyota Vios that is sold in multiple nations abroad, and has received significant success, especially in the South-East Asian markets. Toyota will hope to replicate that success here and has made certain modifications to the Yaris.

The Yaris features a broad grille up front which gets DRL inserts at the top. A large Toyota logo is flanked by headlamps that wrap around the front to the sides. These headlamps also receive projector bulbs for better lighting.

The ORVMs get integrated turn signals and the door handles receive a chrome finish. The sides also get two powerful creases that rise intermittently. The rear, again, gets large wraparound tail lamps with rear fog lamps in the bumper.

The interiors now sport a dual tone beige-black finish with brushed metallic inserts for highlights. The waterfall centre console houses a touch screen audio system, the HVAC vents and a digital climate control system.

The multi-function steering wheel is chunky and has buttons on either side to control the music system and to receive calls. The drivers seat will also get power controls to make it easier to find the perfect riding position.

The instrument cluster gets a large informative colour display at the right to provide the user with necessary data. The car will also get a start-stop button, while the passengers at the rear bench would get a centre armrest, as is the norm in the segment.

The car will be powered by a 1.5 L petrol engine which will be mated to a CVT automatic transmission.
