Renault India recently announced a four-fold increase in year-on-year sales for the eight months from January to August 2013, despite the ongoing slowdown in the Indian automobile market.

The company registered sales of 45,986 units in January-August 2013, compared to 10,139 cars during the same period in 2012. Renault sold 3,733 units in August 2013.

“Macroeconomic factors such as inflation, rising interest rates, increasing fuel prices, unstable stock market and the devaluation of the Rupee have been keenly felt in the Indian automobile industry, resulting in decreasing consumer demand and an overall de-growth of 9% so far this year,” said Sumit Sawhney, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Renault India Pvt. Ltd. “In this challenging environment, Renault’s brand continues to be associated with performance and reliability among customers, allowing us to grow strongly in the market – a trend we will endeavor to sustain in the future.”

The company sold a total of 6,056 units of the Duster in July and August 2013, compared to 4,378 units sold during the same period in 2012. “The Duster has been our flagship product for just over a year, playing a crucial part not just in Renault’s success in India, but also in spearheading the changing landscape of the Indian automobile industry” said Mr. Sawhney, “A growth of around 38% in year-onyear Duster sales for July-August shows the continued desirability of the Duster among Indian customers, despite the shrinking market.”

Renault India sold 3,733 units in August 2013, compared to 3,916 units in August 2012, with the Duster accounting for 2,967 units, the Scala 340 units, Pulse 405 units, Fluence 11 units and Koleos 10 units
