2011 Hyundai Verna – all the pictures, specs and details

Finally, clear pictures of the all-new Verna from all angles are out. At two different occasions earlier, we had shown you the undisguised pictures of the new Hyundai Verna. (click here and here for the earlier stories). Now our friends at Noticias Automotivas have finally revealed the clearest pictures yet of the car from the Beijing Motor show, and that too from all the different angles.

The 2011 Accent is 4.34 meters long, 1.70m wide, 1.46m tall, with a wheelbase of 2.57, a gain of 7 cm from the previous Accent. The new Verna will be a strong competitor for the SX4, Ford’s Fiesta sedan, VW’s Polo sedan and even the Honda City.

The interior has not yet been revealed, but expect it to be an exponent of good workmanship and tasteful appointment of quality materials as well as colours. The car will also have more features as regards safety and luxury. The car will have the usual 1.6 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines that we have on the current Verna here. We can also see an all new 1.4-litre engine being plonked in producing 95PS of power and 125Nm of torque.

The new Verna is a big improvement over the current version which disappointed the fans of the brand when it replaced its earlier version. The 2011 Hyundai Verna takes design cues from the globally applauded Sonata, and follows Hyundai’s new fluid design philosophy.

The car has the typical, strongly accentuated crease running through it shoulder line and a low-placed narrow scooped out line starting from the front door and culminating at the far end of the rear door. The swept back headlamps, the accentuated fog lamps and the strong creases on the bonnet of the car, along with organic lines try to give it a mix of elegance and brawn. However, the exercise fails to end up as a clean, well thought out design with way too many elements trying too hard to prove a point. The bonnet is reminiscent of the Hyundai i20, and that smiley front grille is an aberration from the hexagonal family grille that’s a standard feature these days on all new Hyundai cars.

The strong shoulder crease merges into the tail-lamp of the car at the rear. The rear end of the car is a cleaner and more elegant design with that pair of horizontally tapering tail lamps.

The new car may not look like an exceptionally good looking vehicle in the first view, but it’s still good enough to challenge its competition in India. If Hyundai manage to appoint a tasteful and roomy cabin, along with a good mix of handling and ride quality, and price the car right, they will surely manage to revive the popularity of the old Accent with this new Verna. We are expecting the car to be launched by early January in 2011.
