Nissan Unveils Upgraded Qashqai at Sunderland Plant in UK

Nissan has announced the commencement of production for the new and improved Qashqai at its UK plant in Sunderland. As the original crossover, the Qashqai has seen numerous updates to maintain its position as the UK’s fastest-selling car and a leader in the segment it created nearly 18 years ago.

The production of the new Qashqai in Sunderland follows a fresh £30 million (₹318 Crore) investment, bringing Nissan’s total investment in the UK to £6 billion. Adam Pennick, Vice President for Manufacturing in the UK, expressed pride in the Sunderland plant’s role in producing the Qashqai. “Having the number one team behind the number one crossover is a winning formula, and we can’t wait to see how much our customers enjoy the new design and extra tech,” Pennick said.

Qashqai Feature Highlights

The new Qashqai arrives with advanced features, including an updated driver assistance system, a larger 12.3” infotainment screen, and the integration of Google built-in as part of the NissanConnect system. This ensures seamless connectivity between the vehicle and the driver’s digital cockpit. Other enhancements include improved interior materials, new paint options, and upgraded exterior lighting.

One of the standout features of the new Qashqai is the upgraded Around View Monitor, which now includes a 3D function and an “invisible hood view” for improved maneuverability in tight spaces. This system uses machine learning to create a visual representation of the car’s surroundings, aiding drivers in avoiding potential hazards.

As the new Qashqai prepares to hit dealerships across Europe and beyond, Nissan has not made any statement if there is any possibility of the car coming to India. The Indian market is currently favoring hybrid powertrains and the Qashqai could be a good addition to Nissan’s current single-car fleet. They did showcase the Qashqai last year, however there has been no update on the progress since.
