BS6 Kawasaki Ninja 400 Launched At ₹4.99 Lakh

After a two-year hiatus, Kawasaki is finally back with the Ninja 400 in the BS6 avatar. The Ninja 400 was discontinued in 2020 since it didn’t have a BS6-compliant engine. Priced at ₹4.99 lakh, the Ninja 400 is the most expensive bike in its class when compared to the KTM RC 390 and the TVS Apache RR310. Let’s take a look at what’s new:

What’s new?

The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 gets a new livery of the Kawasaki Racing Team, finished in Lime green and Ebony.  Besides the color, Kawasaki has also revised the Ninja 400’s 399cc, parallel-twin engine to make it BS6 compliant. Design-wise, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 takes design cues from its elder siblings. Up-front, the model is equipped with dual LED headlamps and a ZX-10R-inspired LED tail lamp. As compared to the Ninja 300, the new Ninja 400 receives a sharper design for the headlight cluster, fuel tank, fairing, and body panels.

The LED turn indicators continue to be mounted on the fairing. It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analog tachometer which may feel outdated when compared to the all-digital unit found in the competition. Other features include an Eco indicator. Based on a Trellis frame which makes the model 6kgs lighter than its predecessor, the Ninja 400 tips the scales at 168 kgs (wet) which makes it the lightest in its class. The lighter weight can also be attributed to the smaller fuel tank which now stores 14 liters of petrol as opposed to 17 liters in the Ninja 300. Suspension duties on the model are taken care of by 41 mm Kayaba sourced forks at the front and a mono-shock unit at the rear.

The motorcycle is equipped with a 310 mm disc and a 220 mm disc at the front and rear respectively. Also on offer is a dual-channel ABS. Propelling the new Kawasaki Ninja 400 is a 399 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 45 PS at 10,000 rpm while the peak torque of 37 Nm comes up at 8,000 rpm. This motor is paired to a six-speed transmission.
