The much awaited TVS Apache RTR 200 has been spied once again, this time on the streets of Bangalore and Coimbatore. This new set of detailed spy shots reveal almost every detail of the machine. Last month, we reported about the rumours of the new Apache’s launch being scheduled on 20 January 2016.
The images of the TVS Apache RTR 200 sent to us by our reader Akshay from Bangalore sports a clip-on handlebar while the spyshots sent to us from Coimbatore feature the flatter single-piece tube handlebar. Earlier we had observed that the Apache 200 twins spied in Indonesia had different types of handlebars too.
The 2016 TVS Apache RTR 200 is expected to be powered by a 200cc single-cylinder four-valve air/oil cooled engine. As seen from the images, the powermill is nestled into a double cradle frame and is a load-bearing member. A sharp under cowl is instated in order to protect the engine from kicked up debris. The power figures of the bike will be close to 25bhp while the torque will remain around 22Nm. The power will be pushed to the wheels by a 5-speed transmission. Cooling system on the bike is said to be sourced from BMW.
It is believed that three variants of the Apache RTR 200 will be launched, out of which one will presumably be a special edition. The Apache 200 will also be exported to overseas markets, therefore what variants will stay for the Indian market is not conclusive yet. On the visual front we have already seen the the Apache 200 gets sharper and edgier. The minimalistic fairing, beefy tank with TVS Draken X-21 like extensions and bodywork give it a streetfighter look. Clear lens indicators, LED tail lights, sharp grab rails and a longer rear mudguard are the fancy touches.
The bike will feature an asymmetrical odd-looking exhaust muffler, the same can be seen from the spyshots. The exhaust mounted to the bikes are rather unfinished and industrial. There patchwork and weld marks suggest that it may undergo changes before production. Also, there is news that the bike will roll out with Pirelli tyres, we believe that the export version may get the Pirellis, while the Indian version will ride on TVS rubber.
In other news, there are claims floating that the TVS Apache RTR 200 will easily take down the KTM Duke 200, with a 0-60 kmph score of 3.5 seconds. We shall hold our comments on this, since official details are yet to be out. The bike will be priced at around INR 1.25 lacs and it is about time to see the Apache 200 compete with the Duke and the Bajaj RS200, till then stay tuned for more updates.
