The latest offering from Hyundai India, a crossover based on the Elite i20 hatchback will be called the “i20 Active”, or a “SUV looking car”, as the Korean manufacturer would love to define it as. Designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany, i20 Active is scheduled to make an official global debut in the Indian market on the 17th of March 2015.

The i20 Active adopts a ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0′ design language, which according to Hyundai, “encapsulates a trio of main design elements: fluid aesthetics, the modern Hyundai look, and a premium ambience.”

The new front bumper incorporates a larger, trapezoidal air dam, and is flanked by a couple of neat, round fog lamps on either side. Also creeping up from below is the sumptuous scruff plate, replete with a brushed aluminium finish and mirroring the giant air-dams shape.

The i20 Active will also sport the Euro-spec headlamp cluster, which includes projector lamps along with LED DRLs

Apart from the full body cladding, the new i20 Active has a ground clearance of 190mm, 20mm more than Elite i20. A set of newly designed 16 inches five spoke alloy wheels round things off.

The new rear bumper is highlighted by the cute, round reflectors and a re-designed number plate recess. Brushed aluminium finished scruff plate makes its presence felt here as well.

Also note the addition of roof rails, chromed door handles, and the outdoorsy looking fuel filler cap.

Hyundai i20 Active Interior

The interiors are mostly carried over from the Elite i20, and the i20 Active will come with two dual tone interior options: Tangerine orange+black or Aqua blue+black.

The Active will take on others of its ilk, including the Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross, VW Cross Polo and the upcoming Maruti SX4 S-Cross. Powering the vehicle should be the same engine options – 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, both sourced from the Elite i20.
