The Tata Motors owned British luxury car maker Jaguar is planning to locally assemble its new entry level model, the XE sedan in India. The piece of news comes from company’s closely related sources. The new XE will be the cheapest Jaguar till date and will compete against the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4..
The new XE will feature two versions of the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel. The first, company claims, rated at 163PS/380Nm, delivers benchmark efficiency figures of 75mpg and 99g/km CO2 without any compromise to launch performance or mid-range acceleration. The 180PS/430Nm variant on the other hand has one of the highest torque outputs in the class.
In a response to Livemint, the company said, “The Jaguar XE will not be launched in India until 2016 and at this stage, I cannot confirm if this car will be manufactured locally.”
Local assembly will help Jaguar price the XE at very competitive prices. However, it remains to be seen if the luxury car maker begins local assembly.
