Mahindra Scorpio received a much required facelift earlier this week. The idea behind this model year upgrade was to help the Scorpio have a better chance against the competition. On the outside, the new Scorpio receives a premium look with a newly designed front end. The front of the new Scorpio sports projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, new grille and bumper. The rear gets new LED tail lights with a more edgier character.

Now that the new Scorpio is out, we decided to compare the technical specifications of this Mahindra made SUV with its closest competitors. The very first name that struck our mind was the old war horse in a new avatar from Tata’s stable, the Safari Storme. The second contender may look small in size, but, is in no way a underdog. The French made Renault Duster has taken the compact SUV market by storm and the price bracket in which it is placed puts it in direct competition with the new Scorpio.

In terms of length and width, the Tata Safari Storme is the biggest among the three while the new Mahindra Scorpio is the tallest. Renault Duster, being a compact SUV, is the marginally smaller in the lot. The Tata Safari Storme also takes the top spot in terms of powermill with 140 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. The new Scorpio takes the second spot with 121/76 PS of power and 280/200 Nm of torque. The Duster, despite having the smallest engine among the three (1.5-litre) manages to put out a healthy 85/110 PS of power and 200/248 Nm of torque.
Now comes the crucial part of the comparison and that is the pricing. At Rs 8.4 lakh, the Mahindra Scorpio has the cheapest base variant. Renault Duster, despite being a compact SUV, is priced at a premium. But the most expensive SUV among the three is the Tata Safari Storme with the top of the line variant priced at Rs 12.42 lakh.
