The 7-seater MPV space in India is all set to witness increased activity, with Renault about to launch the Lodgy, and Chevrolet looking to spin around their fortunes in India with an aptly called vehicle. Although they already have a product in the segment in the form of the Enjoy, the car hasn’t been able to script a sales sheet success story.
However, they’re about to have another go at it with the Spin MPV, which has been spotted testing by Motoroids reader Adarsh. Already on sale in some south-east Asian markets, the 7-seater Chevrolet Spin could well bring some some smiles back in the bow-tie camp, if priced, marketed and positioned correctly.
Standing 1683 mm tall, 1735 mm wide and 4360 mm long, elsewhere, the near 1.2-tonne Chevrolet Spin is powered by a 1.2L 4 cylinder DOHC 16 valve dual VVTi petrol, which churns out 85 BHP @ 5,600 rpm and 115 Nm of twisting force @ 4,000 rpm, or a 1.5L petrol motor that cranks out 107 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 142 Nm of torque @ 3,800 rpm.
Diesel power comes in the form of a 1.3L 4 cylinder common-rail direct injection turbo-diesel engine that produces 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. Transmission duties are taken care by a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Spin will most likely replace the Enjoy, or the latter could be positioned to be sold in a lower segment. Equipment wise, the Spin MPV comes packed with goodies like a remote key, power windows all round, adjustable headrests on all 3 rows, 3 point retractable seat belts on all three rows (2pt for 2nd row centre seat), 60:40 split tumble second row seats and an Infotainment system with 4 speakers and radio/aux/usb/Bluetooth support. We expect this new MPV to be priced a notch higher than the Chevy Enjoy.
