Astonishing yet true, the Indian Hero Motors post the break up of their JV with Honda have finally got off to a good start by grabbing the contract to make gearboxes for BMW bikes which will be sold world-wide. The contract will be for five or eight years depending on the transmissions sourced for different products by BMW Motorrad.
“We have developed the gearbox ourselves. Usually, components such as engines and transmissions are made by the company itself, as they involve advanced technology. We have achieved the expertise. BMW Motorrad will source gearboxes from us for products it sells globally. Europe is the best place for sourcing automobile components is not necessarily correct. The landscape is changing. Our transmission business, for one, has been growing over 70 per cent a year for the last few years” Mr Pankaj Munjal the MD of Hero Motors said.
It is good to see an Indian company to achieve such a feat, Hero motors needed a boost for their company morale as the industry thought that without Honda the company would cripple. Hero has given a punching answer to one and all.
