Ducati has finally revealed its much awaited low-cost bike for the Asian markets, and it’s called the Monster 795. The first Ducati bike to have been launched outside Europe, the 795 underlines the emergence of Asia as a big market for big capacity bikes. The 795 has been designed to cater to the needs of customers in Asian markets such as China, India, Japan and some other South East Asian countries. According to the new bike’s official website, the bike IS ALREADY available in the following countries: Thailand, China, India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore. We’d be interested in knowing the price here in India, if it’s already been launched, won’t we?
The Ducati 795 is an amalgamation of the Monster 696 and the Monster 796. The 795 will benefit from local assembly in Thailand, and some other small but significant cost cutting measures to deliver its target markets a capable, yet affordable bike from the Italian bike maker’s stable. Ducati’s brand new plant in Thailand is company’s first such unit outside of Italy. It’s notable that Thailand already has some other global automakers such as Honda and Triumph assembling their machines. Ducati will deliver the engine and some other critical components to Thailand, while some other not so significant parts will be manufactured locally.
The Monster 795 draws heavily from the bigger 796 in terms of design. Almost the entire front section, the exhaust, the tank borrows cues from the bigger Monster. However, the 796 loses some exotic bits such as the single sided swing-arm in favour of a double sided unit which seems to have been derived from the smaller Monster 696. The seat too looks more similar to the 696 than the 795. With a seat height of 770mm, 30mm less than the 796 Monster, the 795 should be easier to pilot for riders with a shorter height. It doesn’t take a genius to know that Asians’ average height is lesser than their European counterparts, and says something about the attention Ducati have paid to tune small details suit the Asian market.
The 795 shares its engine with the 796. The bike features the same 803cc L-Twin cylinder, 2 valve per cylinder Desmodromic, air cooled unit which power its more exotic sibling. The engine is good for peak power of Power 87 PS @ 8250 rpm (7 bhp more than the Monster 696) and peak torque of 78 Nm @ 6250 rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speeder unit with chain driving the rear wheels. The Euro 3 compliant bike will come with ABS as optional equipment.
The Monster 795 has the same specs for its Fuel tank capacity (15 liters), from suspension (43mm dia) and disc brakes (Front: 2x 320mm Rear: 245mm) as the other two Monsters. The bike will be available in three colour combos – Red (red / black), Arctic white silk (red / black), Diamond black silk (red / black)
