Audi to enter used cars business in India

Popular luxury car maker Audi is planning to head into used car business. This should happen as early as in December.  Michael Perschke, Audi’s India chief, recently told a news daily that this will make acquiring an Audi car much simpler as the used cars could be made available at around half the on-road price of new cars. “So far, used car business in this segment is dominated by traders, but buyers may find a better bargain if original manufacturer refurbishes cars and sells with a warranty. Some luxury cars enter the second-hand market within 12 months of purchase,” said Perschke. It may be noted that the Audi line up of vehicles starts retailing at about Rs 32 lakh and an Audi available at half this price means that a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry buyer will also have an option of going for a luxury car. What is even better is that Perschke has said that the German car maker is planning to soon launch cars in Rs 20-25 lakh price range.Audi is certainly getting aggressive in India. It is on its way to introduce dealerships in emerging cities and a used car business means that Audi cars are slated to become more popular in the country.
