Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 face lift spied, launch in a couple of weeks

With the relatively recent launch and success of the Renault Kwid and the impending launch of the promising new Datsun Redi-Go staring it in the face, Maruti Suzuki seems to giving its biggest seller, the Alto 800, some nip and tuck. Face lifted version of India’s top selling car model has been spied recently, and if the reports are something to go by, the car will be launched in a couple of weeks from now.

The mildly facelifted version of the Alto 800 gets several changes, which might not be too significant, but should give the big selling hatch a shot in its arm to tackle the Redi-Go more effectively when the small urban cross is introduced early in June.\

Up front, the new Alto 800 gets a reworked fascia. The headlamps and the grille have been re-styled mildly. The slit above the front bumper has become slimmer creating space for the Suzuki logo to sit below it, on the panel. The hexagonal air dam on the previous version has been reshaped into a trapezoid. The black, horizontal slat holding the registration plate has been removed and replaced with a black surface to mount the plate on.

The facelift hasn’t seen much change on the sides and at the rear. The wheel caps on the top of the line variant may get a new design though.  We don’t expect any changes to be made to the mechanicals either and the car’s output and efficiency will largely remain unchanged.

The Alto 800 draws its power from a 796cc petrol engine with about 48PS of peak power and 69NM of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5 speed manual transmission with an ARAI fuel efficiency of 22.74 kmpl. The new Alto 800 will be offered in petrol and CNG variants, as before.

Priced between 2.5 to 3.8 lakh, the Alto 800 locks horns with the likes of the Hyundai Eon, Datsun GO, Renault KWID and the soon to be launched Datsun Redi Go.

Expect the new car to hit the showrooms in a couple of weeks from now. Check out more images of the facelifted 2016 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 below
