Upcoming Volkswagen Polo GT 1.2 TSI to come with 7 speed DSG ‘box

It has by now become a well known fact that Volkswagen India is readying a new performance oriented variant of the Polo hatchback. Powering the upcoming variant will be a 1.2litres turbocharged TSI motor and the car would take the mantle from the now defunct Polo 1.6.

Polo 1.2 TSI test mules have been spotted testing in India on numerous occasions within last few months and it seems like the car is very close to being launched in the country. The Polo 1.2 is certainly looking all poised to become the only turbocharged petrol B segment hatchback in India.

It has now emerged that the upcoming variant, which has been dubbed as the Polo GT 1.2 TSI, has been bestowed with not just a powerful and modern petrol engine but also with the much acclaimed 7-Speed DSG gearbox that should ensure fast and precise gear shifts. The gearbox will also endow the Polo 1.2 with another feather in its cap by making it India’s first (and only) hatchback to feature a double-clutch gearbox.

The 1.2 litres TSI petrol motor that will power the car has a max power output of 105 bhp and peak torque output of 175 Nm! More than the power figure, which is nothing short of fabulous, it is the torque figure that seems to be phenomenal. The only sore point we can find in the equation is that VW India has decided to skip on equipping the car with paddle shifters.

Visually, the VW Polo GT 1.2 will look similar to the recently launched Polo SR edition and will feature a similar body kit, dual tone interiors and brushed metal floor pedals. Other additions include the GT and TSI badges.
