Renault, Nissan to Launch 6 New Cars in India

Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi have announced their partnership in India. This comes after the recent global alliance announcement in London.  Renault Nissan will invest ₹5,300 crores in the development and manufacturing of these six products.

New Products

While it is not clear what products will be launched, we know that these will be three Nissan and three Renault cars. Out of the six, four will be C-segment SUVs and two new fully electric vehicles. These will be manufactured in the Chennai plant and will be exported globally. Each brand will be bringing in two SUVs and one EV. The new cars will have a shared platform however, each product will have its own brand identity.

Other Products

Nissan has been heavily banking on the Magnite for the past few years. Nissan had recently showcased the X-Trail, Qashqai, and the Juke. None of these three cars are a part of the six cars coming after 2025. However, between 2023 and 2025, Nissan could get these to India through the CBU route and we could see the launch of these products starting this year.

India: Renault-Nissan’s new Global Hub?

Nissan is already exporting the India-made Magnite to the global markets. There are also talks of a left-hand drive version of the Magnite which is in development and will be exported to European markets. The six new products will be heavily localized and produced in India and exported globally. A big chunk of the ₹5,300 crore investment will go towards employing 2,000 staff members at the Chennai plant.
