For years, the Range Rover has been known for its size, comfort and ability to go places where many luxury SUVs would hesitate. Now, the famous SUV has taken a major step into the electric age. The first-ever fully electric Range Rover has been revealed, and bookings have opened in India on the same day. The new SUV brings twin electric motors, a large 118.5kWh battery and a claimed range of up to 600km. It is not just about going electric either. Range Rover has worked on keeping the SUV comfortable on the road and capable on rough surfaces.
Exterior design keeps the Range Rover look
The electric version does not get a completely new body design. It carries the familiar Range Rover shape, so it still looks large and premium.

118.5kWh battery and 543bhp powertrain
The main mechanical change is under the body. The Range Rover Electric uses two permanent-magnet electric motors with all-wheel drive.

The battery uses a double-stack layout with 344 prismatic cells. Range Rover says the SUV can go from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds.
Charging is quick for such a big SUV
The large battery can take DC charging at up to 350kW. On a suitable charger, a 10-80 per cent charge can take around 22 minutes. A short charging stop can also be useful. Range Rover claims that around 220km of WLTP range can be added in 10 minutes. The 800V system helps the SUV handle high charging speeds.
Built for rough roads too
Electric power has not taken away the Range Rover’s off-road character. The SUV can wade through water up to 900mm deep. It also gets new systems to manage traction.

Bookings for the Range Rover Electric have now started in India. The booking amount is reported to be Rs 10 lakh. Customers can choose from several versions:

The First Edition will be offered in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black and Varesine Blue.
Rivals in India
Once prices are announced, the Range Rover Electric will enter the premium electric SUV space. Its key rivals will include the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, BMW iX and Volvo EX90.
The electric Range Rover has a difficult job here. It needs to offer luxury, strong performance and the off-road ability expected from the name.
