This is IT! After setting us excited by teasing us with a dozen spy shots, the new Hero Karizma ZMR seems to have shed its camouflage.
Only yesterday, we reported that Hero Motocorp has confirmed that the upcoming ZMR edition would get a more powerful engine, which would be the first commercial production model post their technical partnership with US-based Erik Buell Racing (EBR). Now, thanks to our friend Abhilash Mishra, who sent us a pic of what could very well be the new ZMR, we have got a fair idea of how the updated bike would actually look like.
As can be seen, perched atop the new ZMR is none other than Mr. Pawan Munjal, MD and CEO, Hero MotoCorp.
If this pic really is anything to go by, the new ZMR would look completely different (and bigger) than the current model and would come with a twin-headlight asssembly, new fairing, new decals, sportier rear registration plate holder, new seat, fairing mounted ORVMs and a new exhaust pipe.
The suspension and wheels seem to have remained identical to those on the current model, which means that the bike continues to come with conventional gas charged twin rear shock absorbers, five spoke alloy wheels and disc brake assembly at front and rear.
Coming back to the topic of powertrain, it would be interesting to see how well would the EBR DNA help the ZMR in being more performance-focussed. On a personal note, I am more interested to see what the new Karizma (non-ZMR) would be like but the new ZMR could very well attract some more buyers away from the likes of Honda CBR150R and Yamaha R15.
Talking about the engine, Mr. Munjal has said, “There is a lot of innovation happening in our own R&D and we will bring it to the market through some of the products we will launch. We have applied for patents for those innovations. This is showcasing our capability. We will be launching the new Karizma variants which are redesigned and the engine made more powerful with our partner EBR. This is the first commercial production model in which they have played a big part in development.”
Though Mr. Munjal’s words certainly are music to our ears and we hope for a substantial bump in engine grunt on the new Karizmas, it would be too early to speculate the power figures, especially considering that the engine design spotted in few of the spy pics looks very similar to that of the existing air cooled motor’s design.
Both the new ZMR and the new Karizma are a part of Hero Motocorp’s strategy to cash in on the festive season where it would be introducing 15 new models- majority of which would be launched between the months of October to December 2013.

No change to mediocre chassis, no change to the even more mediocre suspension, some bump in bhp (not very difficult for what was a very softly tuned engine in the first place) which will increase the cooling issues, and that repulsive fairing.
Id this the best they have to lure away the premium bike customer? Can’t see this thing pulling the Duke 200 CBR150 or R15 customer. Esp considering the famous Hero build “quality”.
