As its seventh offering within the E-class range Mercedes-Benz India today launched the E-class cabriolet in India. The stylish convertible version of the E-class has a retractable soft top roof with ample space to seat four. The four seater, soft-top convertible has 3.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 272hp of power at 6000 rpm and 355 Nm of torque at 2400 – 5000 rpm.
The E-class cabriolet follows a philosophy of what M-B calls “It’s about air stream and not main stream”. The car features a new technology called AIRCAP for better usablity across all weathers. AIRCAP® is an automatic wind deflector that can be deployed at the touch of a button to significantly reduce turbulence in the vehicle’s interior. It also dispenses with the assembly required for conventional wind deflectors and leaves the side profile of the Cabriolet undisturbed.
The roof of the new E-class cabriolet is made of a soft sound dampening material with high-quality insulation to deliver comfortable travel with the top up. The closed E-Class Cabriolet is claimed to offer one of the quietest interiors in the segment of four-seater premium soft-top cabriolets.
The top can be open or closed at the touch of a button in 20 seconds –at speeds of up to 40 km/h. Standard safety equipment include the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system, PRE-SAFE® predictive occupant protection and intelligent light system among others.
The new E-class has been a great success for Mercedes-Benz in India as well as internationally. The E-class first rolled out of the M-B India plant in 1995, and has till now sold over 12,700 units thereby establishing itself as the most popular luxury car In the Indian market. In the current year, the E-class has broken all the previous records and has sold 1268 vehicles between January to July 2010.
The E-Class Cabriolet is priced at INR 64.5 lakhs as per ex-showroom Delhi pricing.
