We reported in detail when it emerged that the new Mercedes A Class would be launched in India at a launch event in Mumbai on May 30. The A Class is already being showcased to a select audience at Mercedes India dealerships in various cities of India and we have also come to know of the engine variants that the India spec A Class would offer.
The petrol variant of the A Class, which has been christened as the A180, is powered by a 1.6 litre turbo motor that boasts of a max power output of 122 PS. The diesel engine variant, which has been dubbed as the A180 CDI, is powered by a 1.5 litres oil burner which has 109PS of max power. It may be noted that this engine is the same Renault sourced K9K diesel motor that powers many small cars in India.
We also reported when Mercedes-Benz India launched a major digital media offensive aimed at creating a buzz around the launch of the New A-Class. Mercedes-Benz India’s digital offensive was launched on May 2. Mercedes-Benz India also launched a unique online contest for the launch of the A-Class luxury compact car. The contest gives the winners a chance to keep a Mercedes A-Class for a complete year or a chance to party in Ibiza. The ongoing contest requires uploading one’s favorite party photograph, tagging #Aclasspulsate. Mercedes-Benz is also running the A-Class campaign in association with India’s leading multimedia youth platform, MTV.
