Max Verstappen Dominates Abu Dhabi GP

Verstappen Dominates Abu Dhabi GP and setting a new record with 19 wins out of 22 races.

While the drivers’ and constructors’ titles had already been settled, the battle for second place between Mercedes and Ferrari added an extra layer of excitement to the final race

Verstappen’s Triumph

As anticipated, Verstappen, starting from pole position, showcased his prowess by securing a comfortable victory, finishing 17.993 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc. This triumph marked Verstappen’s 54th win in Formula 1, placing him third in the all-time winners’ list behind Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.

Verstappen expressed his emotions, stating, “It was a bit emotional on the in-lap, the last time I was sitting in the car that has, of course, given me a lot. I’m very proud to win here and also at the last race. I have to say a big thank you to Red Bull; it’s just been an incredible year.”

Mercedes Claims P2

The battle for second place in the constructors’ championship intensified as a penalty for Sergio Perez played a pivotal role. Perez received a five-second penalty for a clash with Lando Norris. In a strategic move, Leclerc allowed Perez to pass him for P2, hoping to create a gap between Perez and George Russell, which would have secured Ferrari’s P2 in the constructors’ championship.

However, Perez fell just 1.1 seconds short, ultimately finishing in fourth place behind Leclerc and Russell. This outcome provided Mercedes with enough points to secure P2 in the constructors’ championship, edging out Ferrari in the final standings.

Race Recap

The race also saw strong performances from Norris, finishing fifth, and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in sixth. The top 10 was completed by Fernando Alonso, Yuki Tsunoda, Lewis Hamilton, and Lance Stroll.

As the sun sets on the 2023 Formula 1 season, fans can look forward to the pre-season test scheduled for February 29-March 2, 2024, signaling the start of the new F1 action.
