Mahindra released the RWD Thar 4X2 in January 2023 at an attractive starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). But now according to dealers, the Thar 4X2 has received its first price increase of Rs 50,000 since its launch.
This is the first price hike for the Thar RWD that has happened within three months of its launch. The reason behind the hiked prices is said to be the RDE-compliant motor of the Thar 4X2.
Here are all the updates about the Thar 4X2.

Compared to its launch price of Rs 10.99 lakh, the Thar LX diesel RWD is now Rs 50,000 dearer than before, i.e., it comes priced at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
While Mahindra has hiked the price of the LX diesel variant, the prices of AX (O) diesel (Rs 9.99 lakh) and LX petrol AT (Rs 13.49 lakh) continue to be the same as the launch price.

Engines & Powertrains
Powering the 2WD version of the Mahindra Thar is a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It makes 118PS of maximum power and 300Nm of peak torque. It also gets the option of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (152PS/320Nm), mated to the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission only.
There is currently nothing on the market that can be considered a direct competitor to the Thar 2WD, however, the more costly Thar 4WD competes with vehicles like the Force Gurkha and the soon-to-be-released Maruti Jimny (expected to hit showrooms in mid-2023).
