KTM-Husqvarna Electric Scooter in the Works?

An electric scooter has been seen testing in Europe and going by the gear the rider is wearing, it is safe to say that it will be a KTM-Husqvarna scooter.

EMotion Final Product Render

KTM-Husqvarna Project EMotion

Electric Mobility in L-Category Vehicles for All Generations is what EMotion stands for. A new electric scooter is being developed by the EMotion project consortium that should reduce CO2 emissions, especially in urban areas. The Austrian Institute of Technology, or AIT, is working with 10+ business and academic partners, including KTM Motorcycle, KTM E-Technologies, KISKA, and Bajaj Auto. The target market for this L-category electric two-wheeler is the 50+ generation and young adults between the ages of 16 and 18. It is designed to be a comfortable, cost-effective, and energy-efficient alternative to other modes of transportation.

Spy Shot

The spy shot reveals that the e-scooter is pretty close to the Emotion renders and is probably in its final testing phase. It comes equipped with LED lights and turn indicators and a flyscreen. The scooter also gets USD forks and a rear mono shock. The round mirrors do not complement the overall design and could be changed in the final stages.

The battery cells are placed at the bottom for ideal weight distribution, like most electric scooters in India. The aluminum rear swingarm, which was designed in the trademark lightweight, structured KTM style, is also noticeable. The swingarm’s aluminum plate is likely used to cool the electric motor, as shown by the cooling fins on it. For a lightweight power scooter, the wheels are sizable, and the rear wheel clearly displays the tyre size, which is 120/70-14. Every wheel has a disc brake, and an ABS sensor ring is also visible. The images do not clearly show the drivetrain, which runs along the left side of the vehicle and connects the centrally located electric motor to the rear wheel.

Powertrain

Public access is available to the ongoing documentation of the EMotion project. Two variations of the electric scooter are being created. One version for the Small Power Scooter category with 4 kW (5.5 hp) and a top speed of 45 km/h, and a more potent version for the Light Power Scooter category with 8 kW (11 hp) and a top speed of roughly 100 km/h.

When Will It Come?

The production-ready scooter is speculated to be revealed at EICMA 2023 and we could expect a launch later next year. There are speculations that this scooter will be made in India at the Bajaj Chakan plant and will be exported worldwide. The next generation of the Bajaj Chetak could borrow heavily from this platform as well. What remains to be seen is if this will be KTM or Husqvarna-branded scooter. Our speculations are more towards this being a Husky as the indicators and the mirrors are borrowed from the Svartpilen and Vitpilen. Also, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer has made his apprehension clear about scooters being a part of the KTM brand. Whatever the case, we are excited that an electric scooter is coming from the house of KTM.
