JSW Motors is preparing to enter India’s passenger vehicle market with its first SUV. We already know that the company is working on a model based on the Chery Jetour T2. Now, the name of this SUV is being reported as Combat. The new SUV is expected to be launched around the 2026 festive season.
The Combat is expected to sit in the ₹30 lakh to ₹50 lakh price range, ex-showroom. It will use a plug-in hybrid system and will be sold as a five-seater SUV.
Price and Positioning
The expected price puts the Combat in a busy part of the Indian SUV market. It could attract buyers looking for a large SUV but also wanting an electrified powertrain.

The Toyota Fortuner is one of the models that the Combat could be compared with because of its size and rugged design. The powertrain, however, will give the JSW SUV a completely different character.
Exterior Design
The SUV is expected to carry much of the Jetour T2’s boxy shape. JSW Motors is likely to make some cosmetic updates to the front and rear sections specifically for the Indian market.
Key expected design elements include:

- Large bumpers
- Black body cladding
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- Roof rails
- Vertical LED tail-lamps
- Tailgate-mounted spare wheel
Prominent JSW branding will also be used across the body. The upright stance and rear-mounted spare wheel should give the Combat a proper, commanding SUV appearance.
Cabin and Equipment
The cabin is expected to feature a clean dashboard layout dominated by two large screens. A massive 15.6-inch touchscreen will handle the infotainment system, paired with a 10.6-inch digital driver’s display.
The international Jetour T2 offers several premium comfort features, and the Indian model is expected to carry most of them forward:
- 12-speaker audio system
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Panoramic sunroof
- Powered front seats
- Ventilated front seats
- Ambient cabin lighting
- Adaptive cruise control
- 540-degree camera
The advanced camera system can also display an underbody view, which can be highly useful when navigating rough roads or deep potholes.
Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
Power will be supplied by an advanced plug-in hybrid system. It combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery pack.
The same setup in the global Jetour T2 produces a strong 360hp and 610Nm of torque. It uses a specialized three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
For India, the Combat is expected to launch with a front-wheel-drive layout. While the global T2 is available with different drivetrains, the Indian SUV is currently expected to stick to front-wheel drive at launch.
Electric Range and Charging
The 18.4kWh battery in the global model offers a claimed electric-only range of up to 90km under the NEDC cycle. The battery can be charged using both regular AC and fast DC charging.
With a 6.6kW AC charger, replenishing the battery from 30 to 100 per cent takes around three hours. A 50kW DC fast charger can juice it from 30 to 80 per cent in just 27 minutes.
The global T2 has a claimed combined driving range of around 1,200km with a full tank and full charge. Final numbers for the Indian Combat will be confirmed closer to its launch.
What to Expect
The Combat will be an incredibly important launch for JSW Motors as it marks the brand’s very first step into the Indian passenger vehicle space. Its unique plug-in hybrid setup, large cabin, and bold SUV styling could easily help it stand out from traditional petrol and diesel SUVs.
